Eat@Seven Suntec City: Direct from Japan - Fresh Tuna Sashimi at Mass Market Prices. MAGURO-DONYA MIURA-MISAKI-KOU Review [Media Invite]
Suntec City's recently revamped towers now houses a Japanese restaurant street concept, Eat at Seven. It houses 7 different Japanese specialty restaurants all in one stretch.
MAGURO-DONYA MIURA-MISAKI-KOU was the first of the 3 restaurant concepts we tried. The tuna comes direct from the Miura Misaki Harbour in Japan where Maguro fishes are caught - thus the restaurant name. They are already an established chain in Japan with about 15 outlets.
Our session started off with an enthralling live tuna-cutting session. The whole Bluefin Tuna is flown directly right from catch in Japan, in less than 24 hours to Singapore. We watched the animated cutting executed by the skilled Japanese chef: first the head, then the body - chutoro, toro, the cheek...and I lost count.
3 Cuts of Tuna:Akami, Chutoro, Otoro ($39)
Next we tried the grilled cheek (kamatoro) of the tuna. It was moist - slightly crisp on parts with the grilled skin. Served with the chef's (Chef Watanare San) refreshing special concoction of bonito shoyu, the grilled fish meat was delicious.
Until October 2015, they also have an opening special set lunch going at $49 instead of $79.
Judging from the sashimi quality, and thanks to their persistence in flying the maguro in directly from Japan, the quality is worth coming back for. Especially that chutoro sushi.
